The City

Porto is a unique city. A city of architecture, music, literature and theatre; history and culture; river and sea; gastronomy and wine; sports; days and nights; of strong accent and fierce feelings; of and for all ages... A city of granite light, of clothes drying outside the windows, of stairway houses designing a wall.
Ancient, very noble, always loyal and invicta, names that have been attributed to the city over the centuries, of which the historic resistance during the liberal wars conferred the greatest of predicates: Invicta, the undefeated city.
Porto has been distinguished several times as best European destination, awarded the certificate of quality of life and identified as a safe city. It is the second largest city in Portugal and one of the largest urban areas on the Iberian Peninsula, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The City of Porto

Location

Right at the heart of the city, Saboaria's location is perfect: a very short walk from the city's main attractions, including the vibrant Ribeira district, the historic Torre dos Clérigos or the recently refurbished Mercado do Bolhão, and also just a few metres from Avenida dos Aliados, Rua de Santa Catarina or Livraria Lello. Metro access to Francisco Sá Carneiro airport (at a distance of 15 km), is a 1-minute walk away.

History &
Architecture

Saboaria offers a unique experience to travellers looking for a comfortable stay with a touch of history. Several noble families have passed through this building in the last two centuries, in a history almost always linked to soap manufacture. It is known that the Galician family that founded the famous Saboaria do Bolhão in the 19th century made this house their family home, also using it as an extension of the Bolhão factory. Over the years, the building passed through various hands, always maintaining the connection to the manufacture and storage of soap and related products. The Offenbach soap produced in Porto became a symbol that has crossed generations and it is used all over the world. Located at no. 560-582 Rua do Bonjardim, the building has been subject to a careful restoration, maintaining the baroque façade and respecting the identifying details of Porto architecture, while adding all the amenities for a pleasant stay and a unique experience.
